National powerboat
Course (Level 1+2)
This course is aimed at those looking for a comprehensive and practical step-by-step guide to all that is power boating. From basic boat handling to coastal navigation, rope work and learning some of the International Regulations, this powerboat course covers all that you need to get power boating quickly, safely and confidently.
Who should do this course?
This is an ideal beginner to intermediate course, covering all you need to know to safely operate a powerboat. If you are new to boating, it is recommended that you complete the Level 1 Introduction to Powerboat course prior to attending this course. However, if you have some previous power boating experience, the National Powerboat Course is probably best for you. Feel free to contact us if you are unsure which course you wish to book. Participants must be aged 16 years or older to take part on our courses.
Course Duration
The National Powerboat Course run from 10am-5pm over two days unless otherwise stated.
Course Syllabus
Launch and Recovery from a Road Trailer.
Pre departure checks
Safety and Planning.
Learning the art of picking up a Mooring
Learning how to Leave and Come Alongside a Dock.
Anchoring.
Turning in confined spaces / operating in busy marina areas.
Recovering a person overboard.
Rules of the “Road”
Tying up to a pier or pontoon.
All necessary knots Round Turn, Reef Knot and Bowline
Be able to fasten a line to; a cleat and mooring bollard

Safety Boat Course
The aim of this course is to introduce candidates to the techniques and skills used in powerboats which are:
escorting racing fleets of dinghies, windsurfers and canoes,
providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets, and
assisting in race management duties.
Previous knowledge / experi- ence
Participants must hold the ISA National Powerboat Certificate or an equivalent certificate.
It is strongly recommended that at least one member of a safety boat’s crew should hold a first aid certificate and the Short Range (SRC) VHF radio operator’s certificate.

Taster session
Whether it’s your first time on a boat, or you are an experienced boater just looking for some time out on the water - this taster session is for you.
With a max of 3 people per boat, you’ll each get a chance to drive and sightsee around Cork harbour under the supervision of a certified powerboat instructor.
Our fleet of boats is powered by 115-150hp outboard engines, so we can see a lot of the harbour within the 2 hour taster session.
Advanced Powerboat Course ( level 4)
The Advanced Powerboat Course will allow powerboaters to gain skills in boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation, at both day and night in coastal waters.
Who should do this course?
Participants must hold a National Powerboat Certificate (Level 2) or an equivalent certificate and provide 20 logged hours driving experience following their qualification. It is strongly recommended that participants hold a VHF radio operators’ certificate and have attended a costal nav course however it is not essential.

Introduction to Power boating
(Level 1)
This course is the ideal one-day introduction to power boating course. Gain experience in a variety of different craft, including our high-speed RIB. At the end of this course you’ll receive the Irish Sailing Introduction to Power boating Certificate and from here, you can further your training on our National Powerboat Course. If you have some prior experience, check out the National Powerboat Course (level 2).
Who should do this course?
If you’ve never driven a powerboat before and are looking for an informative and exhilarating day on the water, then this course is for you!
If you have a small bit of previous experience ie own a boat yourself, you might consider the National Powerboat Certificate
